CLASS HISTORY To be exact, seven years ago, we the members of the now finishing class came into the Capeville Elementary School with a flourish. Timid, shy, and half afraid, yes, but very game. One half of the class was sent to room six to Mrs. Annie S. Bibbins, the second half was sent to Mrs# Broxton in room five. The school seemed so very large to us, that it took us some two or three days to acquaint ourselves with the many entrances and exits. We were very funny six year olds, indeed. Getting lost, crying, and wanting to go home to our mothers. Time moved on and so did we. We stopped here and there to gather flowers, but never seriously detained. We selected from among our group, Catherine Arnold, to run for May Queen. We supported her whole heartedly. The effort paid off, Catherine was crowned Queen of the May Day Festivities. Indeed, we were very jubilant. We greatly appreciated the school board wiring our class rooms and Installing florescent lights. This made the process of studing a little more comfortable. Likewise we appreciate the new bath room facilities and our lovely new individual desks. We also welcomed the new shades in Mrs. Helm' s room. Our hats off to Mrs. C. L. Brinkley and the former members of the fifth grade for raising funds and purchasing an American flag for our school yard. During our sixth year, we participated in a piano recital, fashion show, Christmas Cantata, ^nd all the drives for better health. Now, the old calendar on the wall tells us that another year has roll¬ ed around and we are about to bid adieu to dear old Capeville Elementary School. It grieves us to leave, but the best of friends must part some¬ time, so must we. We wanted an Annual so we worked hard for it. We most certainly thank all members of our faculty for their kind thoughts and understanding. We could not have hoped to have reached this the first hurdle in our education, if it had not been for our beloved parents, also the everlasting faith which our principal had in us. May our history live long in our hearts and yours. Class Historians: Catherine Arnold Class Historians Continued ’.Frances B. Bibbin3 John V. Collins Earnest Townsend CLASS PROPHECY As we gaze into our crystal ball, we see many many changes which have taken place in the lives of the class of ’55. A sample of the same is herewith. Ere ten years later John V. Collins is the resident physician at Northampton Memorial Hospital. Frances Bibbins, a girl of charm, gfcace, and understanding is presenting her first piano concert in Carnegie Hall. Our friend, Catherine A. Arnold, a girl of patience is the superintendent of nurses in DePaul Hospital. Sol Connie Coston is the heavy weight champion of the world. Winston Nottingham is an artist of renown. Traveling through Townsend, Virginia which has grown to be quite a town, we read, Ernest Townsend and Sons, Mortuary. Charles Robinson, as undecided as ever, is wearing a van-dyke beard, striped morning trousers and a frock coat. For what? We don’t know. Gloria L. Wynder, secretary to the cdunty clerk. Now we jump into our old Ford and visit a few other grad’s of 55. "Mary View College11, Delois Nottingham, dean of women; Verdell Custis, math teacher; Dorothy Moses, Physical Education instructor; and Violet Spady, Language Professor. We leave there and visit Fenderson’s Gymnasium Specialty "building strong bodies" - So - we find James Nottingham working on the parallel bars, hoping to develop strong muscles and become a Yankee pitcher. Of course, by now you know that James Mack is the star of the Globe Trotters. James Doggett , Gregory Spady, and Robert Jackson is still swinging on nothing. Robert Harris being a succes3iful farmer, just produced a bumper crop of Cuban Yams. Joyce Smaw ha3 grown very thin.
